Design-Build Bathroom Remodeling

Bathroom Remodeling in Montgomery County, MD

Why Waterproofing Decides How Long a Bathroom Remodel Lasts

A bathroom hides its quality behind the tile. A gap in the waterproofing rarely shows up on day one. It shows up a year or two later as a stained ceiling below, loose tile or mold behind the wall, and by then the only fix is tearing the shower out.

That is why we waterproof every shower to code with a complete membrane system before any tile is set. We also level every wall and floor plane, so large-format tile lands flat and the grout lines stay straight.

You approve a photo-real 3D rendering and a detailed proposal before demolition. Then one project manager and one crew see it through to completion.

What's included

Bathroom Features We Build Into Every Remodel

Waterproofing built to code

A complete waterproofing membrane system behind every shower, installed before tile, for a shower that is built to last.

Aging-in-place design

Low-threshold showers, comfort-height fixtures, and blocking for grab bars built into the walls now, even if you don't need bars yet. Adding blocking later means opening the finished tile, so we plan for it up front.

Layered lighting design

Backlit mirrors, niche LEDs and dimmable recessed lighting, specified room by room.

Large-format tile expertise

Slab-look porcelain installed with minimal grout lines. Large tiles need a much flatter substrate than standard tile, because any dip or hump shows up as uneven edges. That is why we level every surface before the tile goes down.

Investment

What a Bathroom Remodel Costs in Montgomery County

These ranges reflect our recent Montgomery County bathroom projects:

  • Hall bath, existing layout$40,000 to $60,000
  • Primary bath, full remodel$90,000 to $150,000
  • Primary bath with layout changes or tub-to-shower conversion$110,000 and up

Where a project lands in those ranges depends mostly on the cabinets and fixtures, especially when the design includes a tub and tub filler, and on the labor involved in relocating plumbing or replacing old cast iron drain lines. Older bathrooms that need new water lines and wiring sit at the higher end. We share your investment range in the first conversation.

Permits

Bathroom Permits in Montgomery County, Rockville and DC

Most full bathroom remodels need building and electrical permits, and plumbing changes need their own approval:

  • Most of Montgomery County: Montgomery County Department of Permitting Services
  • Rockville and Gaithersburg: each city's own permit office
  • Plumbing in Maryland: WSSC Water
  • Northwest DC: the DC Department of Buildings, including plumbing

Inspections happen before walls and floors are closed, and scheduling them on time is the key to keeping a bathroom remodel on track. We build every inspection into the timeline from day one.

Condos

Condo Bathroom Remodels in Rockville

Condo bathrooms come with rules a single-family home doesn't have. On our condo bathroom remodel in Rockville, the building administration required a certificate of insurance, a licensed contractor, set work hours, elevator reservations and specific rules for hauling away debris. If a unit's shutoff valves aren't inside the unit, the building also needs notice before the water is shut off. We confirm these requirements with your building and build them into the schedule before demolition.

Primary bath with periwinkle walls, white shaker double vanity, oval mirrors and marble-look quartz

Primary Bath in Rockville

Periwinkle walls, a white shaker double vanity, oval mirrors and marble-look quartz. The original bathroom had a built-in tub the clients rarely used, so we reworked the layout. Removing the tub let us enlarge the shower, expand the adjacent walk-in closet, and make room for open shelving and a built-in shower bench.

Primary Bath in King Farm, Rockville

This uniquely shaped bathroom had a large corner tub the clients never used, a small shower and a vanity area that didn't make the most of its space. We reconfigured the layout, borrowing an extra angle from the water closet to create a spacious custom shower with a corner bench and built-in niches. The vanity now has a center tower cabinet for storage, and a custom bench beneath the window adds seating and more storage.

Condo Primary Bath in Rockville

A navy slab double vanity, white quartz counter, brushed nickel faucets and backlit mirrors. The original bathroom had a built-in tub, a small shower and a cramped walk-in closet next door. We removed the tub to create a spacious walk-in shower with a custom bench and niche, and placed the handheld shower within easy reach of the bench so the clients can shower comfortably while seated. Grab bars support aging in place, and the space the tub used to take let us expand the closet and add custom cabinetry. We also worked within the building's rules on insurance, work hours, elevator use and debris removal.

Bathroom Remodel in Gaithersburg

The vanity area wasn't making good use of its space, so we moved the vanity to a longer wall, extending the run of cabinetry and adding storage. Rather than close up the original recessed medicine cabinet, we turned the opening into a display niche finished in blue glass tile. The same blue tile outlines the shower floor and forms an accent band above the shower niche.

FAQs

Bathroom Remodeling FAQs

How long does a bathroom remodel take?

Active construction runs about 2.5 weeks for a hall bath and 4 to 6 weeks for a primary bath. The full project takes 7 to 14 weeks including design and permitting. A full gut with plumbing or layout changes sits at the longer end. You get a detailed schedule before construction begins.

Do I need permits for a bathroom remodel in Montgomery County?

Yes. Most full remodels need building and electrical permits from Montgomery County or your city (Rockville and Gaithersburg run their own), and plumbing changes in Maryland go through WSSC Water. DC projects are permitted through the DC Department of Buildings. We manage applications, scheduling and inspections.

Can we use the bathroom during construction?

If you have more than one bathroom, most homeowners use the others without issue. For single-bathroom homes, we plan around the disruption and keep the schedule tight. Dust control and daily cleanup protect the rest of your home.

Does AC Remodeling take on partial bathroom projects?

No. We focus on full-scope design-build bathroom remodels, not cosmetic updates like vanity swaps or shower repairs. Handling the whole project lets us control the waterproofing and quality from demolition to final tile.
