Design-Build Kitchen Remodeling
Kitchen Remodeling in Montgomery County, MD
AC Remodeling is a design-build kitchen remodeling contractor in Montgomery County, based in Gaithersburg and serving Bethesda, Potomac, Rockville, Kensington, Chevy Chase and Northwest DC. We work with homeowners planning a full-scope kitchen remodel: new layouts, structural changes, custom cabinetry and finishes, all designed, priced and built by one team.

Design-Build Kitchen Remodeling With One Team Start to Finish
Many kitchen projects run into trouble in the handoff between designer and builder. We remove that handoff. The same firm draws your kitchen, manages the permits and builds it with our own crew, whose members average more than 10 years with the company.
You review a 3D rendering and a detailed proposal before demolition. From there you have one project manager, a weekly update and a schedule you can plan your life around.

Who You'll Work With
Alex Reyes started in the trade more than 20 years ago as a carpenter's helper with a large remodeling company in Rockville. He founded AC Remodeling in May 2009 to focus on interior remodeling, and today he leads a design-build firm that handles full kitchen remodels across Montgomery County and Northwest DC.
Licensed in Maryland (MHIC #127743, verify on the Maryland license lookup) and in DC (License #420220000070, issued by the DC Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection).
What's included
What's Included in a Montgomery County Kitchen Remodel
Cabinetry
Custom and semi-custom cabinetry, primarily in painted maple, with a range of stains, woods and finishes. Full-overlay, soft-close construction throughout.
Stone and surfaces
Quartzite and engineered quartz, templated precisely, cut at our fabrication partner's shop in Rockville rather than on site, and seamed where you won't see it. We choose surfaces for durability as much as beauty, and we often steer clients from marble to quartzite because it resists staining and etching better and needs sealing far less often.
Lighting
Layered ceiling, task and accent lighting on dimmers, planned around how the room is actually used.
Storage plan
Every cabinet feature is intentionally planned before we order: spice pull-outs, appliance garages, tray dividers, hidden waste and pantry systems.
Structure and systems
Wall removals, beams, HVAC rerouting, panel upgrades and new plumbing, all handled under one contract and one permit process.
Appliance integration
Panel-ready refrigeration and ventilation sized to your range, with rough-ins coordinated with your appliance dealer before the walls close.
Investment
What a Kitchen Remodel Costs in Montgomery County
Every kitchen is priced from a detailed design. Most of our full kitchen remodels start at $100,000, and projects with larger footprints, premium features or structural work can exceed $250,000.
The biggest cost drivers are the cabinetry, the appliance package and any structural changes. We discuss your investment range in the first conversation, so there are no surprises at the proposal stage.
Permits
Kitchen Remodeling Permits in Montgomery County and DC
Most full kitchen remodels need building, electrical and plumbing permits, and who issues them depends on where you live:
- Most of Montgomery County: Montgomery County Department of Permitting Services
- Rockville and Gaithersburg: each city's own permit office
- Plumbing and gas in Maryland: WSSC Water
- Northwest DC: the DC Department of Buildings
In historic districts such as Kensington and parts of Chevy Chase and Silver Spring, exterior changes like new windows or additions may also need historic preservation review. We manage the entire process for you, from application to final inspection, including any historic review your project requires.
Early coordination with local inspectors is one of the biggest factors in staying on schedule. A missed or poorly timed inspection can pause a project for up to two weeks, so we coordinate with inspectors before each phase begins.

FAQs
Kitchen Remodeling Questions, Answered
How long does a kitchen remodel take?
Active construction typically takes 6 to 9 weeks, and the full project runs 13 to 18 weeks including design and permitting. Structural work like moving load-bearing walls or relocating utilities adds time. You get a detailed schedule before construction starts.
Do I need permits for a kitchen remodel in Montgomery County?
Yes. Most full remodels need building, electrical and mechanical permits from Montgomery County or your city (Rockville and Gaithersburg run their own). In Maryland, plumbing and gas work also requires WSSC Water approval. DC projects are permitted through the DC Department of Buildings. We handle every application and inspection.
Can we stay in the home during construction?
Most clients do. We use dust control, floor protection and daily cleanup to isolate the work zone, and we help you set up a temporary kitchen nearby.
Does AC Remodeling take on partial kitchen projects?
No. We focus on full-scope design-build kitchen remodels, not cosmetic updates like cabinet refacing, so one team manages the entire project from design to completion.
What countertop materials do you recommend?
We primarily recommend quartz and quartzite for durability and low maintenance, and we can source marble or other premium stones on request.
